Why Whey Protein Drinks?

Protein Drinks come in many flavours and give you the same protein supplementation as shakes and bars however they are ready made so you don't have to mix powder with milk or water. If you're in a hurry, protein drinks may be the thing you need. Some bodybuilders prefer protein drinks because they don't like the taste of shakes or sometimes they just prefer a change.

Protein drinks will usually come in a bottle of series of capsules.

Advantages

  • Ready made so no preparation needed
  • Goes down easier than protein shakes
  • Many All-in-one drinks - protein, carbs and electrolytes

Disadvantages

  • Not as economical as protein powder
  • Not as much choice

Types of protein drinks

Most Protein Drinks come either in a bottle or in a series of capsules for that quick protein hit. Some protein drinks also come with a good amount of carbohydrates which are usually used pre-workout if you need some carbohydrates. Many are all-in-one drinks which pack carbs, electrolytes, nutrients and protein to get you through a workout. They contain plenty of fluid especially if you're doing an especially gruelling workout or you are doing extensive cardiovascular exercise.

Choosing a Protein Drink

What protein drink you need really depends on what type of workout you are doing and whether you are taking any other supplements with it.

For example, if all you need if protein then you are better off with a protein capsule containing just protein and no carbs or electrolytes. If for example, you are planning to do a particularly hard workout and you need plenty of fluids, electrolytes and protein, then go for an all-in-one protein sports drink.
