Rice protein is hypoallergenic so it therefore an excellent option for vegetarians, vegans or for allergy sufferers. It comes from brown rice and is made in supplement form by extracting all the non essential and essential amino acids from the brown rice. It is perfect for adding to any food or drinks as it cannot be detected and the taste of the food or drink to which you add it will not be changed, provided you buy an unflavoured variety.

Although not many people know about it rice protein powder is not only perfect for vegans and vegetarians but it will also provide a lot of benefits for others too. It can be a great addition to any daily diet and is a suitable alternative to whey protein powder. There are a number of reasons for taking this but there are some drawbacks too.

Essential amino acids which are a part of brown rice are a big part of rice protein powder. It is also a source of fibre and natural protein. Essential amino acids are vital to a healthy body and can ensure healthy growth of lean muscles. The fact that rice protein powder is hypoallergenic means that it is less likely to cause any allergic reactions than other protein powders including whey protein powder and egg protein powder. It has no yeast, milk, wheat or soy, which are also known to cause reactions in some people. The use of rice protein rather than soy is more cost effective as they both cost the same but rice protein is more effective in the body.

Rice protein powder is a great alternative to whey protein powder for vegans as there are no animal products included at all. It has a naturally mild taste which means it can be added to juice, water or other drinks to provide a drink which tastes great but which is still high in protein. If you prefer to buy a flavoured variety, you can choose from options such as chocolate, vanilla or strawberry.

Although rice protein powder is a great addition to any diet, it may not be as effective as other protein powders such as whey protein for building muscle. For this reason, it is not as popular and there are not as many varieties on the market as other protein powders. Manufacturers can see more benefit in continuing with animal based protein powders rather than trying to push one that is not as effective in the market they are targeting. You many also find that there is less protein per serving in rice protein powders compared with whey protein powders.

But for those who are lactose intolerant, who suffer from allergies or for vegans, rice protein powder can be the perfect choice. It will give them the opportunity to benefit from its great qualities while not causing any side effects.

Nice article. I have never come across rice protein before. How does it compare price wise with the more marketed products?
